Well done David - your best mark yet (it's an A).
Plan
Perfect :-)
Presentation
Visually pleasing (as last time); Layout, headings, use of images,
internal navigation & external links were all fine. You've used quotation
(more would be welcome) & references well Your writing style is exceptionally
well tailored to your imaginary audience - you make a particularly neat
job of explaining technical terms as soon as they occur. There are a few
hiccups in language accuracy (e.g. when the Internet was been
developed - should be "being"; These company's - should
be "companies") & some sentences that are run together. Wordcount is
carefully respected.
Introduction
This does exactly what an introduction should do - gives a quick overview
of all the topics your report will cover, in the order you'll use. Well
done!
Main body
Description of the Internet 9/10
After an excellent start, your "What is..." section does drift quite
quickly into explaining how it works. You might perhaps have paused to
say a little more about what the Internet includes, using material from
the start of Module 2 (e.g. the WWW's role as a library, shopping
centre, news provider etc.). I was surprised to find this later in your
report!
How the Internet works 8/10
A lovely clear account of how packets are created & transmitted
via routers. Taken together with material from the previous section, all
this needs is a more detailed explanation of how the protocols function,
e.g. the layered stacks through which packets pass, & which protocol
does what job at each stage. I guessed this was going to come under a later
heading, & indeed some of it did!
Why protocols are significant 6/10
Elements of your response to this are scattered throughout the report.
It might have been better to collect them into a separate section, covering
the historical significance (TCP/IP enabled the the interconnection of
otherwise incompatible networks such as ARPANET & Cyclades), the reliability/robustness
aspect, & the open nature of Internet protocols (developed in the spirit
of Open Source, controlled by no single company)
Conclusion
This re-states the main points of your report & draws some conclusions
about the significance of protocols, as it should. A punchy quote from
Naughton or the course website would have made a strong finish.
Part 2
References
Excellent range, accurately referenced.

interested to know exactly which route brought you to your specific finds.
